Coalesce were the standard bearers of a particular brand of late 90's/early 2000's Midwest American hardcore that mixed in elements of crunchy metal and mathcore. Dance music for the uncoordinated. Maybe you had to be there to truly enjoy it. I definitely did back then, though my enjoyment these days is limited mostly to their strongest outing Functioning on Impatience.

I vividly remember a guy doing flying, spinning kicks in the pit at their "final show" (they've since re-united at least twice) at Fireside Bowl. That was some crazy shit.
